The Bauchi State government says it will establish a livestock artificial insemination centre at its College of Agriculture to boost productivity and food security.

Musa One, state coordinator of the Livestock Productivity Resilience Support (L-PRES), communicated this on Friday in Bauchi.

He said the centre would provide high-quality artificial insemination services to increase livestock productivity.

“By providing artificial insemination services, the centre aims to increase the availability of meat, milk and other livestock products.

“The centre will offer training, extension services, and access in order to improve breeding stock and support livestock farmers in the state.

“By improving livestock productivity, the centre seeks to enhance food security in the state,” said Mr One.

He added that additional projects under the L-PRES project included the construction of modern abattoirs in all 20 local government areas to improve meat processing practices and curb the spread of zoonotic diseases.

“A laboratory will be constructed at the Area Veterinary Clinic in Kofar Ran, Bauchi, to diagnose and manage livestock diseases.

“The project will also establish a Farmer Peace School to provide informal learning opportunities for rural farmers and equip them with skills for improved livestock management,” he said.

The coordinator said a livestock service centre would be established at Galambi, featuring housing, schools, hospitals, markets and milk storage facilities to attract global investors.

Mr One urged local government councils to support the project, particularly in raising public awareness about its initiatives and benefits.
