Bauchi govt. to invest in aquaculture, irrigation to boost food security: Official

The Bauchi government has developed strategies to accelerate aquaculture and dry season activities to improve livelihoods and boost food security in the state.
The commissioner for budget and economic planning, Aminu Hammayo, stated this at a news conference after the state executive council meeting on Thursday in Bauchi.
He said the initiative was part of strategies adopted towards addressing hunger and poverty among citizens of the state.
According to Mr Hammayo, budget implementation performance is key to measuring the political will and commitment of the government towards the provision of basic amenities to the citizens.
He said the state government was satisfied with the budget performance in the last five years, adding that its implementation from 2019 to 2023 had increased by over 80 per cent.
Simon Yalams, the commissioner for agriculture, said the state government had constituted a committee to gather inputs and make recommendations toward addressing food insecurity in the state.
Also speaking, the commissioner for education, Jamila Dahiru, said the council expressed satisfaction with the level of renovation projects at the special education centre for people with disabilities.
She said the government also approved the provision of learning tools and facilities to aid inclusive education for students with special needs.
