The police command in Bauchi State has warned miscreants against undermining public peace while celebrating moon sighting, which marks the beginning of Ramadan in the state

SP Ahmed Wakil, spokesperson for the command, gave the warning in a statement on Sunday in Bauchi.

He said the attention of the command had been drawn to a purported plan by some reckless miscreants to leverage the moon-sighting celebration to undermine public peace in the state.

“The command recognises the norm of celebrating the sighting of the new moon, which marks the Ramadan Fasting period for the Muslim faithful.

“Parents and guardians are implored to exercise control in guiding their children and wards from deliberate acts capable of breaching public order in the state,” he said.

According to him, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Auwal Mohammed, sternly warns the criminally minded who are hatching plans to disturb public peace and safety to desist.

He added that the command would not tolerate such reckless acts and would come hard on the perpetrators.

“The CP equally directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Team Commanders/Operational Departments of the Command to put in place security measures to arrest any person who attempts to disrupt law and order in the state.

“Furthermore, the CP implores the good people of Bauchi State to continue supporting the police in the fight against crime and lawlessness,” he said.

The spokesperson urged the law-abiding citizens of the state to go about their lawful businesses without any fear of intimidation, urging them to report any suspicious movement to the nearest police station.
