The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has advised Nigerians living abroad to support President Muhammadu Buhari in his anti-corruption campaign.

A press statement issued on Friday said EFCC Chairman Abdulrasheed Bawa stated this on Thursday at a virtual training for Nigerians in diaspora.

The anti-graft agency, therefore, urged Nigerians based overseas to help the government curtail such practices as it will help improve the country’s image, cut waste as well as enhance flow of investment.

Represented at the training by Dr Enakeno Oju, Mr Bawa asked Nigerians in diaspora to be anti-corruption envoys, noting that corruption fuels inequalities, worsens poverty and provides incentives for extremism.

Expressing his support for the efforts of non-state actors in eradicating corruption, Mr Bawa said: “Nigerians in diaspora must join hands with President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to fight against corruption for a better Nigeria.”

Notwithstanding his admonition, Mr Bawa carries his own corruption tag having been indicted for theft of tankers while heading a zonal command of the anti-graft agency, People’s Gazette had reported last September.

Adding his voice, Olanrewaju Suraj, the Chairman of Human and Environmental Development Agenda, (HEDA) Resource Centre said the organisation of the training is geared towards strengthening the capacity of professionals, researchers and media practitioners to be more active in the tracing of assets and illicit funds.
