Bayelsa, Lagos, others shine at Diri Wrestling Classics

Wrestlers from Bayelsa, Lagos and other states emerged winners in various categories on Day 7 of the fourth Governor Douye Diri Wrestling Classics in Yenagoa.
The championship is organised by the Bayelsa government through the Ministry of Sports Development in collaboration with the Nigeria Wrestling Federation.
In the women’s 53kg category, Mausi Zannli of Lagos won gold, while Ayo Esewi of Edo claimed silver.
Andrew Woyinkobikiye of Bayelsa and Bidemi Enukezie of Delta won bronze medals.
In the women’s 57kg category, Jumoke Adekoya of Ondo secured gold, while Faith Esouakpo of Edo took silver.
Tanlayefa Bekefale of Bayelsa and Brenda Godfrey of Delta won bronze medals.
In the women’s 65kg category, Mercy Adekuoroye of Rivers clinched gold, while Mughentola Ebipatai of Bayelsa won silver.
Tokere Appah of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and Jennifer Okhilie of Edo claimed bronze medals.
In the men’s 57kg category, Welson Ebikewenimo of Bayelsa won gold, while Simone Enosunimi of Edo took silver.
In the men’s 86kg category, Godday Eseimokumo of Bayelsa secured gold, while Femi Jackson of Rivers won silver.
The championship will serve as a selection platform for Nigeria’s representatives to the African Wrestling Championships in Alexandria, Egypt, scheduled for late April to early May.
The tournament, which began on March 25, ended on April 1.
