Bayelsa Queens thrash Espoir Ladies to qualify for CAF Women’s Champions League
Nigerian champions Bayelsa Queens have qualified for the final of the WAFU Zone B’ CAF Women Champions League Qualifiers in Ivory Coast after thrashing Espoir Ladies of Benin Republic 6-0 on Wednesday night.
The reigning champions of the Nigeria Women Football League(NWFL) quickly asserted their dominance during the match as Chinyere Igbomalu got the opener inside three minutes of the semi-final encounter.
The Nigerian ladies, however, couldn’t extend their lead before the halftime break.
However, the Prosperity Girls came into the second 45 minutes stronger than they did in the first half, firing another five goals past the goalkeeper of Espoir Ladies.
Kafayat Bashiru, Glory Edet, Etim Edidiong, Mary Anjor, and Chinyere Igbomalu again all got their names on the scoresheet.
At full time, Bayelsa Queens walked away with a comfortable 6-0 win at the Yamoussoukro Stadium Côte d’Ivoire.
The victory implies that Bayelsa Queens have automatically booked their spot at the main tournament of the 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League that has been scheduled for October this year in Morocco, irrespective of the outcome of the final match.
Meanwhile, Ghanaian giants Ampem F.C defeated African Sport from the host country 6-5 on penalties in the second semi-final fixture, and will take on Bayelsa Queens in the final of the zonal qualifying tournament on Saturday, September 3, 2022.
