Benue: FRSC deploys 750 officers for Eid-el-Kabir celebration

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Benue sector command, says it has deployed 750 officers, 16 patrol vehicles, a towing van, ambulances and motorcycles ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The state sector commander, Steve Ayodele, disclosed this on Friday in Makurdi, adding that the command had also deployed a standby rescue team.
Mr Ayodele said that the 750 officers were deployed in all 23 LGAs of the state and specific areas of concern.
He said the command also deployed 16 vehicles, two ambulances, one towing van and two motorcycles for the exercise.
He further explained that the Eid-el-Kabir operation, which would last for one week, would involve officers regularly visiting parks and other public places to enlighten citizens.
He said they also have two functional clinics in Aliade and Katsina-Ala to attend to road crash victims in case of any.
According to him, the command also had a functional situation room and free lines to monitor happenings across the State.
He said with collaborations with Beer Sectorial Group, they have provided adequate breathalysers at parks and highways to check and stop drivers who control the wheels under the influence of alcohol.
The sector commander further warned that any trailer or truck caught conveying goods, animals and human beings would be arrested and the drivers sanctioned accordingly.
He urged the public to support the corps to have a crash free celebration by reporting any driver that misbehaved to them or any security outpost on the highways.
“To this end, I wish to call on the motoring public, especially commuters, to know that the Corps cannot achieve a crash-free celebration unless they play their part by checking the excesses of these drivers any time they transit from one destination to another.
“When drivers drive recklessly, it is your right as commuters to speak up and report such drivers to FRSC Operatives or any other security outposts on the highways,” he said.
