Benue: Student remanded over armed robbery, cultism

A Makurdi Magistrates’ Court on Thursday ordered that a student, David Terhemba, be remanded in a correction centre for alleged armed robbery and cultism.
Magistrate Ajuma Igama did not take the plea of the suspect for want of jurisdiction.
She adjourned the matter until November 23, for further investigation.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Inspector Stella Ngbede, told the court that the case was reported by Ogah Joshua, Samuel Alexander and Dada Abdulkarim.
She said the complainants reported that Mr Terhemba and two others broke into their houses and robbed them at gunpoint.
The prosecution said Terhemba and accomplices stole one L.G Plasma Tv 42-inch, one JVC television, one iPhone 6x, Infinix S4 and Tecno Spark 8c .
She said that the stolen items were recovered from the suspect except for the Tecno Spark 8c.
Ms Ngbede also said that investigation into the matter was still on-going and prayed the court for an adjournment.
She said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 6(b), 1(1)(2)(a)(b) of the robbery and firearms special provision act 2004 and Section 11 of the Abduction, Hostage-Taking, Kidnapping, secret cult and similar activities prohibition laws of 2017.
