More than 2,000 police officers are on duty in Berlin on Monday as the German capital holds a number of events to mark the first anniversary of the October 7 attacks on Israel.

After an early evening service at the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in the western district of Charlottenburg, more than 1,000 demonstrators were at a silent march to a nearby Jewish community centre.

Another 1,000 participants were registered to attend a vigil in the central Mitte district.

Pro-Palestinian rallies were also held in the southern neighbourhood of Kreuzberg and on Potsdamer Platz.
