BigBrotherNaija winner Phyna calls out MultiChoice over failure to pay prize money

Big Brother Naija season seven winner, Ijeoma Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, has lashed out at MultiChoice over its alleged failure to redeem the prize money and other perks attached to her victory.
The content creation, skit-making, and influencers guild in a letter to MultiChoice Nigeria on behalf of Phyna, raised the issue of the unpaid prize money.
The BBNaija Season 7 titled “Level Up,” held from July 23 to October 2, 2022 and among the prizes promised her were 1 Bitcoin valued at $70,052.00 from Quidax Global, a year’s supply of Pepsi products from Seven-Up Bottling Company, a trip for two to Dubai from Travelbeta, and a year’s supply of soap products from Evans Industries (Unik Soap).
The guild in the letter claimed that Phyna was not given any of the promised gifts.
The letter read in part, “(PCCSIGN), writes to you on behalf of Ijeoma Josephina Otabor known as ‘Phyna’, a valued member of our guild, regarding the outstanding debts owed.’’
It emphasised how crucial it was for sponsors to honour its promises to Big Brother Naija winners. It added that failing to do so not only tarnished sponsors’ reputations but also raised doubts about the show’s integrity among the public.
The guild urged MultiChoice Nigeria to prioritise the matter and collaborate with them to ensure Phyna received the prizes rightfully due to her.
It emphasised the significance of “open communication and mutual cooperation” in swiftly resolving the issue to uphold the integrity of the Big Brother Naija brand.
The guild’s acting National President, Michael Obinna Nwabufo, also expressed eagerness to receive a prompt response from Multichoice and invite them for a discussion to explore possible solutions to the matter.
