Bill to establish University of Agriculture in Osun scales second reading at Senate

A bill seeking for the establishment of a Federal University of Agriculture and Tropical Studies in Iragbiji, Osun State, has passed second reading at the Senate.

The Senate on Wednesday, October 2, passed for first and second reading a Bill which seeks to establish a Federal University of Agriculture and Tropical Studies in Iragbiji, Osun State.

The proposed bill was titled: “A Bill for an Act to establish the Federal University of Agriculture and Tropical Studies, Iragbiji, Osun State and to make comprehensive provisions for its due management and administration and for related matters, 2024”.

The bill was sponsored by Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele of the All Progressives Congress, representing Ekiti Central.

The bill was seconded by Deputy Senate Minority Leader, Olarere Oyewunmi, of the Peoples Democratic Party, representing Osun West while Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin and Solomon Adeola among others were also in support.

After Senate President, Godswill Akpabio put it to voice vote, he referred the bill to the Senate Committees on Agriculture and Tertiary Education and TETFUND, who would report back to plenary in two weeks.
