Boko Haram fighters, family members surrender to Nigerian troops: Army
Several Boko Haram insurgents, their families including children have surrendered to troops of Forward Operational Base (FOB) operating along Bocobs-Bama Road, Borno State.
A wireless message sent to 7 Division, Section 1 Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) and seen by Peoples Gazette, said the terrorists comprising of 19 adult males, 19 adult females and 49 children from Njimia, Alafa – axis of Sambisa Forest surrendered around 06:52 a.m. on Monday.
The army said eight AK-47 rifles, one general-purpose machine gun, Weapon Alpha, one Dane gun, one Makarov pistol, ammunitions and magazine, two hand grenades, 27 Ak-47 rifle magazines, one pistol magazine, one 60MM mortar bomb and 10X14.5MM empty cases, one plier, three matchboxes, two syringes, two needles, one pack of infusion set, and N55,000 were recovered from them.
Additionally, two primed vests, 72 trigger switches, 10 Improvised Explosive Device, detonating cord, six-packs of water gel explosive, six mobile phones, one camera camel pack, one camouflage bag, two hard drives, and two scissors were recovered.
The suspects are currently undergoing profiling, the army said.
This comes two days after the Nigerian Army announced that 91 Boko Haram/Islamic States West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists and their families surrendered in the North-East.
Army spokesman, Brigadier-General Onyema Nwachukwu, in a statement on Friday, said that the troops of 202 Battalion, Operation Hadin Kai, took custody of eight insurgents and their families, comprising 10 adult females and 22 children, who surrendered at Ruwaza village in Bama Local Government Area of Borno.
He said the troops of Forward Operations Base (FOB) operating along BoCobs-Bama road also arrested 20 terrorists and their families, who surrendered to troops at Nbewa village also in Bama Local Government Area.
According to him, the surrendered families of the insurgents comprised 15 adult females and 26 children.
