Bolt, Uber drivers demand worker-friendly policies

The Amalgamated Union of App-Based Transporters of Nigeria (AUATON) has called on Lagosride management to urgently adopt a worker-friendly policy for the safety of its members and their property.
The union made the call in a statement by its spokesperson, Jossy Olawale, on Tuesday in Lagos.
It said the call was necessitated by the loss of its first national deputy president, Padmore Adebayo, on Monday while carrying out his duty.
“As a union, our demand for adequate regulation and welfare of platform workers remains unflinching and relentless until ‘Victoria ascerta’.
“Our call to the Lagosride management is to render necessary support and compensation for the deceased’s family and adopt a platform worker-friendly policy immediately,“ it said.
The union expressed dissatisfaction with the conditions of work put in place by platforms like Lagride, Uber, bolt and indriver.
It said such conditions include high commission, low fares, high daily targets and higher asset repayment.
The union also cited a lack of healthcare insurance and anti-workers policies that subject platform workers to prolonged working hours, fatigue, low earnings, a lack of rest time and the struggle to meet the daily target, family time and needs.
