Bayer Leverkusen secured a dramatic 4-3 victory over Wolfsburg in a thrilling seven-goal encounter at the BayArena.

The win meant Leverkusen will not be the first Bundesliga champions to lose their first two home games of the season.

Despite taking an early lead through an own goal, Leverkusen responded with goals from Florian Wirtz and Jonathan Tah to take the lead. Wolfsburg fought back, with Sebastiaan Bornauw and Mattias Svanberg scoring to give them a 3-2 advantage at halftime.

In the second half, Leverkusen continued to press forward and were rewarded with goals from Piero Hincapie and Victor Boniface to secure the win.

Boniface’s late goal proved to be the decisive moment in the match, as Leverkusen held on despite a late red card for Wolfsburg’s Yannick Gerhardt.

The victory keeps Leverkusen’s title defence on track, as they prepare for a crucial match against Bayern Munich next week.
