Borno Attack: Tinubu govt enabling ethnic militia groups in Nigeria, says Atiku

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has accused the President Bola Tinubu-led administration of being numb and indifferent about the escalating killings and kidnappings across the country.
In a statement on X on Friday, Mr Abubakar described the targeted attack on the military base and an internally displaced persons (IDP) camp in the Ngoshe community of Borno State as troubling.
“Even more disturbing is the apparent indifference of the federal government to this incident and to many similar attacks before it,” the former vice president stated.
Mr Abubakar further stated that the Tinubu-led administration had grown numb to the bloodshed in the country, accusing it of unleashing pressure on political opponents and supporting armed ethnic groups.
“The upsurge in violence and killings has become so widespread across the country that both government and society seem to have grown numb to the bloodshed resulting from these assaults.
“It is unfortunate that the current federal government appears to be losing its grip on the fight against terrorism and violent attacks. Instead, it seems more focused on unleashing intense pressure against political opponents and enabling self-serving ethnic militia groups,” the politician stated.
The ADC chieftain sympathised with the families of the victims of the attack, expressing strong indignation at the government’s evident lack of empathy towards the victims of these increasingly frequent assaults.
“It is disheartening that those responsible for internal security, along with the elite of the ruling party, remain preoccupied with consolidating power, while vulnerable civilians and servicemen are being killed,” Mr Abubakar said.
Presidential aides Bayo Onanuga and Daniel Bwala did not immediately respond to Peoples Gazette’s request for comments.
Many residents were killed, and several others were kidnapped in Gwoza after Boko Haram insurgents raided a military base and attacked the community.
The state police spokesperson, Nahum Daso, in a statement on Thursday, said the assailants stormed a military base around 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday before proceeding to the community.
