Borno by-election records high voter turnout amid tight security
The Saturday’s by-election being conducted by INEC in Chibok State Assembly Constituency in Borno recorded an impressive turnout of voters amid tight security.
A journalist, who monitored the election, reports that the exercise recorded high turnout in most polling centres.
The election was being conducted orderly and peacefully as voters trooped to the centres to exercise their franchise.
A voter, Modu Mustapha, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the election and lauded INEC for the timely commencement of the exercise.
He urged the electorates to conduct themselves properly to facilitate the smooth conduct of the election.
Another voter, Aliyu Yerima, described the conduct of the election as free and fair.
Seven political parties fielded candidates for the Chibok State Constituency by-election.
The parties are: African Democratic Congress (ADC); Action Democratic Party (ADP), All Progressives Congress (APC), Allied People’s Movement (APM), Action People’s Party (APP), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Meanwhile, sorting and counting of votes have commenced in some polling units.
