The Borno State Independent Electoral Commission (BOSIEC) has assured the public of its commitment to conduct free, fair and credible elections scheduled for Saturday, December 13.

Tahiru Shettima, the chairman of BOSIEC, gave the assurance at a news conference on Friday in Maiduguri.

Mr Shettima also stated that adequate security arrangements had been put in place to ensure the smooth conduct of the elections across the state.

He said that the commission had already distributed sensitive materials for the chairman and councillorship elections.

The chairman said BOSIEC’s electoral officers were already on the ground in the 27 council areas to conduct the elections.

Mr Shettima said that six political parties are participating in the election, with a large number of women contesting for councillorship in all the council areas.

The chairman, however, called on the stakeholders in the state to give his teeming staff all the necessary support and cooperation.
