Borno: Explosion rocks ammunition facility in Giwa Barracks

Fire razed an ammunition facility in Giwa Barracks in Maiduguri on Wednesday.
Confirming the incident in a statement on Thursday, a spokesperson for the police in Borno, Nahum Kenneth, said the fire, which triggered loud explosions, was however later put out.
The incident happened at 10:30 p.m., causing munitions to detonate.
“A combined security and fire service response team arrived promptly on scene and successfully extinguished the fire.
“Preliminary investigations indicated that the unusually high ambient temperatures in Maiduguri at this time of year may have contributed to the outbreak,” said the police spokesman.
