Borno spent N40 billion on feeding programme for IDPs: Zulum
Borno State governor, Babagana Zulum, has said that his administration spent over N40 billion in catering for the needs of persons displaced by Boko Haram insurgents in the last one year.
Mr Zulum stated this while addressing the IDPs in Mafa, his hometown on Sunday.
Reacting to speculations by some miscreants in Dikwa and Mafa town that the IDPs threatened to return the bushes where they were rescued from Boko Haram insurgents due to economic hardship, the governor said the situation was a global problem occasioned by the Russia – Ukraine war.
Mr Zulum said the displaced persons needed to be grateful to the Borno government amid the sustainable interventions geared towards supporting them.
“There is no state in Nigeria where the government has been attending to the needs of IDPs for years like Borno State,” he said.
Mr Zulum lauded the Federal Government, the military, security agencies and volunteers for their support towards improving the security situation that led to the resettlement of the displaced communities in the state.
The governor, who noted that 90 per cent of the resettled persons could access their farmlands, enjoined them to engage in agriculture instead of waiting for unsustainable handouts.
The Borno State government successfully resettled two out of the three million estimated displaced persons in the state.
