Last night, some parts of the popular Alayabiagba Market in downtown Lagos erupted in fire, witnesses told Peoples Gazette.

A footage of the blaze showed a thick smoke billowing over expensive properties that were gutted. The Gazette did not immediately confirm any casualties.

Witnesses said the inferno erupted around 8:00 p.m. Properties worth millions of naira were reportedly scorched.

The outbreak comes barely a day after a similar explosion Iju-Ishaga was blamed on a gas pipe rupture.

Lagos emergency management officials reported fire had been contained as of Saturday morning, but the source of the fire and the level of destruction were still being evaluated.
