Breakup with Emmanuella derailed my career before Twitch breakthrough, says Carter Efe
Nigerian content creator and streamer Oderhohwo Efe, aka Carter Efe, on Sunday opened up on the personal and professional struggles that trailed his breakup with his girlfriend.
In a series of posts on his Instagram Story, Efe disclosed that he has been single for over a year, describing the separation as a difficult but defining period that forced him to rebuild his life and career with renewed focus.
“Just to let you know, guys have been single for over one year now. God is good; I saw mad changes in my life,” he wrote. “The grind was not ordinary! It was intentional, and I’m not stopping anytime soon.”
Efe alleged that Emmanuella left him for several months and only attempted to reconnect after his recent success on Twitch. He claimed the timing reinforced his belief that the relationship failed when he needed support the most.
The entertainer alleged that the relationship with Emmanuella left him emotionally drained and financially unstable, and he struggled to make content for nearly two years.
He also recalled a period when he trended online over allegations of assault, which he said further damaged his career and mindset.
Efe said he was unable to see his daughter, Charis, for about three months, but he insisted the experience did not deter his determination to succeed.
According to him, his recent happiness and increased online activity are a result of his distancing himself from the situation.
Accompanying his statements were images documenting what he described as his lowest moments, including a small, overcrowded room where he and members of his team slept on chairs and the floor while livestreaming to as few as four viewers.
He said they were eventually chased out of the space on the same day, sharing another image that showed his forehead bleeding after the incident.
The content creator said those experiences shaped his outlook. He also explained why he openly appreciates senior creatives like DDG and Davido.
The posts come months after Efe became Africa’s most-followed Twitch streamer, breaking the record for the continent’s most-watched livestream with 83,000 viewers during a session with Davido.
He also became the first African streamer to surpass 20,000 subscribers on the platform, overtaking fellow Nigerian creator Adesokan Emmanuel, widely known as Shank Comics.
In 2023, Emmanuella got a large tattoo of his name on her back, a gesture that went viral as a symbol of their bond.
In 2024, the couple welcomed a daughter, an event Mr Efe had credited with helping him channel his energy into building a legacy.
