Bricklayer faces two-count charge over stolen building materials

The police on Thursday, arraigned a 39-year-old man, , before a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged theft of building materials worth N955,000.
The defendant is standing trial on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Leo Chidi, told the court that the defendant and two others at large committed the alleged offence on March 1, at about 11:00 a.m.m., at Ungwan Sarki, Kaduna.
Mr Chidi alleged that the defendant and his accomplices stole 15 bags of white cement, 10 bags of cement, 70kg of filler and a Tiger generator, all valued at N955,000, property of the complainant, Bamidele Isaac.
The defence counsel, M.A. Daniel, urged the court to grant her client bail in the interest of a fair hearing.
She argued that the defendant would not jump bail and with the assurance that credible surety would be provided.
The magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, acquiesced to the defence counsel’s plea and granted her client a bail of N200,000 with one surety.
The magistrate, who held that the surety must be gainfully employed as part of the bail conditions, adjourned the case until April 22 for a hearing.
