Gunmen on Saturday stormed a wedding after-party in Lagos, killing the bride’s father and the hypeman, identified as Victor.

The incident reportedly occurred on Oviawe Street, off Governor’s Road in the Ikotun area of Lagos, shortly after the main ceremony had ended and guests moved to a nearby venue to continue celebrating.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers arrived while the event was still ongoing.

A resident, Tosin, said Mr Victor had been entertaining guests before the situation escalated.

“It was during the celebration that the gunmen entered and started shooting. Everyone ran for safety,” he said.

According to him, the gunmen singled out Mr Victor, dragged him outside and assaulted him with weapons.

Another resident said the bride’s father was shot and killed on the spot while trying to plead with the gunmen.

Others suggested the violence may be linked to ongoing cult-related problems in the area.

A resident, Steve, described Mr Victor as a familiar face in the neighbourhood.

“I didn’t realise at first, but later I found out it was someone I usually see around. He was a small-sized man,” he said.

The Lagos State Police spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, could not be reached for comment on the incident.

A message sent to her by Peoples Gazette on Tuesday, seeking an update on the incident, had yet to receive a response.
