Bruno Fernandes equals EPL assist record as United beat Forest 3-2
Manchester United ended their final Old Trafford fixture of the season with a 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest, as skipper Bruno Fernandes joined the Premier League elite with the most assists in a single season.
United opened the first five minutes with a goal from Luke Shaw with a brilliant strike from the fullback, who finished a brilliant solo effort, making it his fifth career goal for the Red Devils.
The visitors retaliated with an effort from Morgan Gibbs-White in the first 45 minutes that forced Senne Lammens to make a sharp save, nicknamed the Tricky Trees, creating several chances before the break.
Forest levelled in the 53rd minute from a short corner set up by Elliot Anderson, with Morato heading home to score his first goal for the Brazilian international.
The Red Devils regained the lead in the 55th minute through a well-placed strike from Matheus Cunha, with VAR reviewing the goal before confirming it.
Bruno Fernandes equalled the assist record from a beautiful effort that set up Bryan Mbeumo as the winger stretched to increase the lead for his side and ended his long goal drought.
For United’s captain, the assist sees the Portuguese international join Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne at the top of the all-time single-season Premier League assist chart, as he reaches 20 league assists with one game remaining and the chance to move to 21.
VÃtor Pereira’s side pulled one back late on through Morgan Gibbs-White, with Anderson registering another assist on the afternoon.
The match also served as a farewell for Casemiro, who departs Manchester United after a key spell at the club, finishing with 26 goals, 13 assists, and one FA Cup and EFL Cup title.
United will face Brighton on the final day of the season, while Forest host Bournemouth as both teams conclude their league campaigns.
