The Minister for Police Affairs, Muhammad Dingyadi, has assured Nigerians of President Muhammadu Buhari regime’s commitment to tackle bandits and other violent criminals in Nigeria.

Mr Dingyadi stated this during the North-East zonal sensitisation campaign on Police Public Complaint Committee (PPCC) on Thursday in Bauchi.

According to the police affairs minister, Mr Buhari’s regime is mindful of the urgency to return the primacy of the Nigeria Police through the promotion of issues relating to the welfare of its personnel.

“Strict adherence to professionalism and modernisation of critical policing enablers to sustain the ongoing fight against violent crimes in Nigeria. The PPCC, which has since become operational, is thus serving as additional layers for citizens to seek redress,” he said.

Represented by Audu Madaki, the deputy inspector general of police (DIG) in charge of Zone 12, Bauchi, Mr Dingyadi further noted that the Buhari regime had adopted proactive measures to bridge the gaps between the populace and the police, to elicit confidence and mutual cooperation.

The minister pointed out that the sensitisation exercise on PPCC would provide enormous benefits in deepening the realisation of the systematic shift from state-centred security to collective security.

He said this could be achieved by enhancing welfare, police reforms, and rebuilding critical policing infrastructure to meet current security concerns.

The police affairs minister further stated that the new approach would underscore the need for collective support for the policing system.

The inspector general of police, Usman Baba, lauded Mr Buhari for the police reform programme in line with international standards and global best practices.

Mr Baba, represented by Umar Sanda, the police commissioner in Bauchi, said the exercise would promote accountability towards enhancing the policing system in the country.

He charged the police personnel to be disciplined and professional in discharging their duties.
