Governor Mai Mala-Buni of Yobe has charged Lieutenant-General Tukur Buratai (rtd), Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Republic of Benin, to replicate successes he recorded as a former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) in diplomacy.

Mr Mala-Buni, who is also the Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), gave the charge when Buratai paid him a courtesy visit, on Saturday in Damaturu.

He said the newly appointed ambassador was a worthy representative of Nigeria in Benin, noting that he would bring to bear his wealth of experience in discharging his duties.

“l have great confidence in your ability to build a viable and strong relationship between Nigeria and the Republic of Benin.

“Your Excellency, your meritorious service in the army has built a great confidence around you, which earned you this appointment as an ambassador by President Muhammadu Buhari.

“I wish you a very successful assignment in your new office and l am sure you will make Nigeria proud,” Mr Mala-Buni said.

In a remark, Mr Buratai thanked the governor for the support and encouragement when he served as the army chief.

“I thank you for the words of encouragement and I promise to do my best for an improved relationship between the two countries” Mr Buratai said.

He congratulated the governor for what he tagged as “exemplary leadership” of the party and the desire to take it to greater heights.
