Burundi, UN inaugurate programme against HIV/AIDS
The Burundian government and the United Nations system in Burundi on Thursday launched a four-year programme to fight HIV/AIDS.
The joint programme is worth about 40 billion Burundi francs (about 14 million U.S. dollars), said Public Health and AIDS Control Minister Lyduine Baradahana after the launch.
“The aim is to have a Burundi with zero new HIV infection, zero death caused by HIV and zero discrimination or stigmatisation caused by HIV by 2027,” she said.
The programme will be implemented in five of Burundi’s 18 provinces, including Muyinga, Makamba, Gitega, Kirundo, and the Municipality of Bujumbura, Baradahana said.
HIV/AIDS, malaria and diabetes are the three deadliest diseases in Burundi.
