Businesswoman in court over alleged N460,000 fraud

The Police in Lagos on Friday arraigned a 35-year-old businesswoman, Blessing Atanda, before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged N460,000 fraud.
The defendant, whose house address was not provided, is facing charges of fraud and theft.
The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 3, at about 9.00.a.m, at Ile Epo Bus stop, along Lagos-Badagry expressway Badagry, Lagos.
Mr Ekpo alleged that the defendant obtained the sum of N460,000 from the complainant, Rabiu Ayo, under the false pretext.
He said, “The defendant unlawfully converted the money to her own use without the consent of the complainant. She was arrested and handed over to police for prosecution.’’
According to Mr Ekpo, the offence contravenes the provisions of Sections 314 and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos, 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Nurudeen Layeni, granted the defendant N500,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
Mr Layeni ruled that one of the sureties must be self-employed.
The magistrate adjourned the case until August 28, for mention.
