CAF shifts 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations to July

The CAF noted that the tournament earlier scheduled for March 17 to April 3 in Morocco, will now take place between July 25 and August 16.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has postponed the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations from March to July, citing the need to ensure adequate preparation for the tournament.

In a statement on Thursday, the confederation said that the tournament which was earlier scheduled to start from March 17 to April 3 in Morocco, will now take place between July 25 and August 16.

“After discussions between CAF and its partners, FIFA and other stakeholders, CAF decided to reschedule the dates of the TotalEnergies CAF WAFCON 2026, to 25 July – 16 August 2026; to ensure the success of this important women’s competition, in the light of certain unforeseen circumstances,” CAF stated.

The confirmation has subsequently ended speculation about the feasibility of the tournament commencing on the initial date as most processes, including media accreditation for journalists remained unresolved less than two weeks before the competition was supposed to begin.

Meanwhile, the confederation assured that “Preparations for the TotalEnergies CAF WAFCON 2026 are underway and all the parties are confident that it will be very successful.”
