The Association of Advocates Against Alcohol Harm in Nigeria is intensifying campaigns, calling for the urgent prioritisation of harm prevention from alcohol consumption.

The national chairman of ASAAHN, Nwokocha Chijioke, said this on Wednesday in Lagos.

According to him, the organisation is set to sensitise Nigerians on the inherent dangers of alcohol to mental health, through a conference billed for November 14.

Mr Chijioke said the conference, which would feature the association’s 2025 annual general meeting, would also educate Nigerians on alcohol harm prevention strategies to promote a healthy lifestyle.

“We are at a critical point where public health advocacy must be strengthened through collaboration, research, and policy action. ASAAHN remains committed to mobilising stakeholders and citizens toward a healthier, safer society free from the dangers of alcohol harm,” he said.

According to him, it will be a platform to engage particularly with youths on good moral behaviours that could reshape their lives for a brighter future.

He disclosed that the event, scheduled for November 14 at Ilupeju, Lagos, would bring together leading voices in public health, policymakers, civil society organisations, researchers, and youth advocates from across Nigeria and beyond.

He said, “The one-day national event will feature keynote presentations and plenary sessions from national and international experts.

“It will  involve strategic dialogue sessions on alcohol policy implementation and harm reduction strategies, as well as networking opportunities among stakeholders driving Nigeria’s alcohol control and mental health agenda.”

According to him, the association welcomes support, partnerships, and participation from individuals, institutions, and the private sector to ensure the landmark event’s success.
