CAN demands child rights law implementation in Kogi

The Kogi chapter of the Christian Association Of Nigeria (CAN) has expressed full support for the prompt implementation of the Child Rights Law (CRL).
CAN’s Kogi chairman Adebayo Olaniyan stressed the need for adequate protection of child rights through the formulation of child-friendly policies.
Mr Olaniyan stated this during a visit by the head of the CRL advocacy cluster, Titus Alonge and his team on Tuesday in Lokoja, appealing to the Kogi authorities to implement the law.
He urged all adults in Kogi to be in the vanguard of child protection to stem rising child abuse cases and pervasive child rights violations in communities across the state.
The CAN chairman decried the high incidence of child molestation under the guise of child adoption and fostering, noting that “there is a growing number of cases of child abuse in our homes that are going on unnoticed.”
Mr Olaniyan urged Kogi residents to take an active interest in child rights advocacy and protection, as well as forming enduring partnerships with rights groups, CSOs, and others, to guarantee children’s rights as he explained that the legal instrument to execute the war against child rights violations had already been established.
He urged them to take advantage of the law to prosecute offenders even before the full implementation of the child rights law in Kogi.
