Canada-based Nigerian man arrested over alleged stabbing of roommate in Ontario

Canadian police have arrested a Nigerian man, Nnamdi Enunwa, for allegedly assaulting and stabbing his roommate during an altercation.
Mr Enunwa was arrested on January 1, 2026, after residents of the Ritson Road North and Adelaide Avenue East area alerted the police to the incident.
The police arrived at the scene after the 38-year-old suspect had allegedly assaulted and stabbed his roommate.
Mr Enunwa was immediately arrested while the victim who sustained serious injuries was taken to a local hospital.
The Central East Division Police in Oshawa, Ontario, in a statement stated that on Thursday, January 1, 2026, at approximately 7:30 p.m., members of Central East Division responded to an armed person call at a residence in the area of Ritson Road North and Adelaide Avenue East.
The statement noted, “Officers arrived on scene and located both the suspect and the victim. The suspect was arrested and the victim was transported to a local-area hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.’’
The statement noted that Mr Enunwa who is also being held for a bail hearing had been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and possessing a weapon to commit a criminal offence.
The Central East Police urged anyone with useful information about the incident to contact Det. Baldini of the Central East Division Criminal Investigations Branch at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 2765, adding that the information in the statement was only being obtained from investigation and not yet proven in a court of law.
It added that anonymous information should be sent to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.durhamregionalcrimestoppers.ca, stating that tipsters might be eligible for a cash reward.
Mr Enunwa’s case followed the stabbing to death of an Indian student by a Nigerian student in Canada, Babatunde Afuwape.
