Canada govt warns citizens about killer alcoholic drinks in Nigeria
Canadian authorities have issued an alert, warning citizens and others travelling to Nigeria about adulterated alcohol containing methanol.
Canada, in its updated travel advisory, raised the alarm over alcoholic drinks containing methanol, warning its citizens and residents visiting Nigeria to buy alcohol from “reputable” companies.
“Casualties have occurred due to the consumption of unregulated and adulterated alcohol containing high levels of methanol,” the travel advisory stated.
As a precaution for Canadians and residents of Canada visiting Nigeria, the travel advisory urged them to “buy alcohol from reputable establishments and seek medical assistance if you begin to feel sick”.
Recently, 48 people died in Ondo after consuming drinks allegedly containing methanol.
The police command in Ondo arrested 14 suspects in connection with the sale and consumption of alcoholic drinks linked to the deaths of 29 people in Odigbo council area, with the death toll later climbing. The Ondo government said about 200 people were affected.
