Canada warns Nigerians, other nationals against immigration scammers
Canadian authorities have raised the alarm, warning Nigerians and other foreign nationals against falling prey to scammers as they process relocation to the country.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued a scam alert on Sunday, warning the public against paying “fees for a chance to be sponsored”.
“A sponsor cannot request or receive money from a sponsored refugee,” the IRCC said. “If you’re being asked to pay fees for a chance to be sponsored for resettlement in Canada, that’s a scam.”
The IRCC also cautioned potential immigrants against sharing their banking details with anyone promising to guarantee their sponsorship.
“Don’t share your personal or banking information, and be cautious of anyone promising guaranteed sponsorship. Protect yourself from immigration fraud,” the IRCC said.
