The Canadian authorities have updated one year living expenses for Nigerians and other foreign students, which will take effect from September 1.

The Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)  the one yeat living expensive which will take effect from September 1, 2026 on its website.
It stated that foreign students applying to study in Canada “on or after September 1, 2026”  in “all provinces and territories except Quebec, “must show they have enough financial resources for the first year of your studies” and “for programs more than a year long, you must also tell us how you plan to pay for the full duration of your studies.”

The new one-year living expenses taking effect from September 1 ranges from $23,4482 to $62,054, based the number of family members accompanying respective students to Canada.

A student, excluding tuition and transportation costs, must have $23,4482, a student with one family member must have $29,1923, a student with two other family members must have $35,8884, while a student with three family members must have $43,5725.
Those with five, six and seven family members must have $49,4196, $55,7367, $62,054 respectively.

The IRCC pegged the living expenses for every additional family member at $6,318, explaining that for “Example: If you and 2 family members want to come to a province or territory (other than Quebec) for a year, you’ll need $35,888 for living expenses.”

According to the IRCC, prospetive students must prove that they have enough money, without working in Canada, to pay for all the following: tuition fees for the course or program of studies, living expenses for themself and the family members who come with them while they are in Canada, transportation to and from Canada for themself and their accompanying family members.
