The comptroller general of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap, has emphasised the importance of capacity building for efficient e-border governance across the country.

Ms Nandap said this during the passing-out parade and presidential inauguration of the 49th Superintendent Basic Course at the Immigration Training School, Kano (ITSK).

The NIS chief congratulated the 714 graduates for successfully undergoing training aimed at enhancing their capacity building in border governance, migration policies, intelligence gathering, and teamwork.

She reassured that the NIS would prioritise capacity building for all personnel, in partnership with stakeholders, through the Modernisation of Nigeria Immigration Service (MoNIS) project and other platforms.

“Capacity building is critical for efficient e-border governance, and we will continue to make it a priority for all cadres of NIS personnel. We will also continue to improve the welfare of officers and men through timely promotions, accessible housing, and health schemes.

“We shall establish a Microfinance Bank in collaboration with Nigeria Immigration Cooperative Society (NIMCOS) to help with the welfare of officers and men of the service,” she said.

Ms Nandap charged the graduands to shun politics and be security conscious, dedicated, and passionate about their duties. She announced the completion of the Command and Control/Data Centres at the Service Headquarters, Abuja.

She also directed heads of formations to support the automation of Passport application processes and intensify efforts to combat irregular migration.

“We are committed to the full implementation of e-border projects, including the e-Gates project and Advanced Passenger Information (API)/Passenger Name Record (PNR). This is to facilitate real-time surveillance and monitoring of expansive borders,” she said.
