Chelsea and Liverpool are through to the quarterfinals of the 2023 Carabao Cup after both teams recorded victories in their respective matches, while Manchester United and Arsenal are out.

Coming from the 2-0 defeat in their last game against Brentford, Chelsea would now have a breath of fresh air after a 2-0 win over Championship side Blackburn to scale through to the last eight of the League Cup.

Defender Benoit Badiashile and forward Raheem Sterling were both on the scoresheet for the Blues.

At the Vitality Stadium, Liverpool managed a 2-1 win over fellow Premier League side Bournemouth to reach the quarterfinals, with Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez scoring the goals for the Reds.

Dutch winger Justin Kluivert scored the hosts’ only goal in the game.

On the other hand, Arsenal were eliminated from the competition following a 3-1 at the hands of West Ham United at the London Stadium, as the Hammers picked up a spot in the last eight.

Ben White’s own goal gave the hosts the lead only 16 minutes into the tie as they went into halftime with a goal advantage.

Five minutes after the break, Ghana international Mohammed Kudus doubled the lead for West Ham before Jarrod Bowen further extended the advantage with his 60th-minute strike.

Arsenal managed to grab a consolation with the last real kick of the game through Martin Ødegaard.

Meanwhile, Manchester United suffered a back-to-back heavy defeat at Old Trafford as the Red Devils were thrashed 3-0 by Newcastle United to avenge the 2-0 loss in the final of the Carabao Cup last season’s final.

Coming off a disappointing 3-0 loss to local rivals Manchester City in the league four days ago, the Red Devils would love solace in the Carabao Cup, where they are the defending champions.

However, goals from Miguel Almiron, Lewis Hall and Joseph Willock meant the Red Devils’ journey in the competition has now ended in the round of 16.
