Manchester United, on Sunday evening, defeated Newcastle United 2-0 at Wembley Stadium to win the 2022/23 season Carabao League Cup, ending the Red Devils almost six-year trophy drought.

Coming into today’s final, United had not won a trophy since they won the same trophy and the UEFA Europa League in the 2016/17 season while it was Newcastle United’s first final appearance in 12 years.

Two first-half goals by Casemiro from a header in the 33rd minute and Sven Bootman’s own goal from Marcus Rashford’s effort were enough to secure the long-awaited silverware for the Red Devils.

Erik ten Hag was able to achieve the feat in his first season in-charge of the United’s first team and also become the first Dutch manager to win the trophy, which is the Red Devils sixth League Cup title.

United are still on course for a quadruple this campaign – the Red Devils are still in the UEFA Europa League round of 16, where they have been drawn against Real Betis; the Emirates FA Cup and currently third in the English Premier League.

Speaking after the match, fans’  favourite head coach, Erik ten Hag, who was dancing with Lisandro Martinez and Antony in a celebratory mood, said “I hope we can do it more often.”
