Catholic Church distributes food items, cash to needy

Members of the Society of Saint Vincent De Poore of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church Tedi-Muwo, Ojo, Lagos State, on Sunday gave foodstuff and money to some needy people.
The members of the society distributed the gifts to some Tedi-Muwo community members to cheer them up ahead of Christmas celebration.
The society, which focuses on charity, distributed rice, noodles and food condiments to 500 individuals.
Each of the beneficiaries also received N3000.
Members of the society carried the items to streets in the area, giving them out to the needy as they preached the gospel of Jesus Christ.
The leader of the group, Basil Nkemjika, said at the event that the gesture was aimed at putting smiles on the faces of the needy.
He said that the gifts were donated by the church and given to the society for charity.
According to him, the gesture demonstrated love which is central to Christianity.
“As the salt of the earth, it is expected that the world sees Christ in our daily lives,” he said.
A widow and beneficiary, Falilat Adewole, said that she always looked forward to such a gesture every quarter of the year and at Christmas season.
Mrs Adewole said that the society had been distributing such items quarterly and during special events.
The mother of four said the gift would help her family.
