A human rights group, Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, over the conduct of some cops in Osun State accused of raping and assaulting a fraud suspect, Abigail Olufunmilayo Ajulo.

It also accused the cops of coercing the suspect to transfer the ownership of her property and car under duress.

The group further called on the IG to probe the case involving an officer with the Zone 11 Police headquarters in Osogbo, Olugbenga Rotimi a.ka. Babalawo, particularly accused of raping Mrs Ajulo. 

The suspect claimed that she bled from her vagina and blood trickled down her thighs.

In the petition seen by Peoples Gazette, the group said police officers without any arrest warrant seized Mrs Ajulo at a building materials shop beside Riverside Hotel on December 4, 2025, at the request of Peter Ogunaya and his wife, Onyedikachukwu Ogunaya who said the suspect defrauded them of over N81 million between 2019 and 2023 as an employee of First Bank of Nigeria.

It stated that Mrs Ajulo spent three days in jail at the Oke Baale police division and was only released after her husband paid N100,000 to an officer called “SOJ.” 

The group noted that she was asked to report to the station daily and on one occasion, officers Obaloluwa, Soji (SOJ) and Mrs Opeyemi, asked her to take them to her residence where they forcefully collected the documents of her property including land receipts, survey plan, her Hyundai Elantra vehicle and other car documents.

According to the petition, the matter was transferred on December 17, 2025, to the Osun CID where police officers disregarded warnings that the case was a civil matter to be litigated in a competent court which did not require the criminal treatment meted out to Mrs Ajulo.

At the state CID, the petition narrated that Mrs Ajulo said the police captured her biometrics for record in the Police Criminal Database to stop her from travelling outside the country.

The petition added that the case was again transferred to the Zone 11 Police Headquarters in Osogbo where she was detained from December 23 to December 31, 2025.

It further stated that on the night of December 27, Mrs Ajulo said officer Olugbenga Rotimi a.k.a Babalawo  offered her his office as a substitute for the cold cell floor where she usually spent the night.

The petition noted that she claimed she was already asleep on his sofa when Mr Rotimi roused her awake to demand sex, using a gun and charms to threaten her. It added that when she attempted to protest the move, he allegedly covered her mouth with a towel and slapped her multiple times into submission.

“The same officer later returned, threatened her with a gun and charms, covered her mouth with a towel, physically assaulted her, and forcibly raped her despite her resistance and pleas. She stated that the assault left her bleeding profusely and in severe pain,” the petition stated. “She further reported that she was forced to clean bloodstains from the sofa before being returned to the cell and threatened with death should she disclose the incident to anyone.”

The group narrated that Mrs Ajulo asserted that pains from the rape left her weak and subsequently unconscious, adding that she was taken to Anuoluwapo Maternity Home and Child Welfare Services for medical care.

There was no indication if Mrs Ajulo reported the alleged rape to the medical team but CDHR suggested she was too traumatised at the time to mention it at the maternity home.

The suspect said she “was compelled under duress to depose to an affidavit transferring ownership of her residential property and her husband’s vehicle to Mr Peter and Mrs. Onyedikachukwu Ogunaya as a condition for her release.”

Mrs Ajulo also claimed that she paid another N500,000 bail to the police before she was released on December 31, 2025.

When The Gazette contacted the Osun State Police Zonal Command spokesperson, DSP Ade Ogunyemi, said Mrs Ajulo was a First Bank employee who defrauded Mr Ogunaya of over N81 million under the pretext of opening an insurance account in his name.

He explained that Mr Ogunaya allegedly deposited N200,000  into the account every week from 2019 until 2023 when he was ready to withdraw the money.

He added that Mr Ogunaya discovered that Mrs Ajulo had diverted the money to her own account for personal use including building a school, 3 units of 2 bedroom flats, among others. 

The police spokesperson said Mrs Ajulo despite being in a health clinic on the date of the alleged rape made no mention of the incident to medical practitioners, adding that her medical report showed no evidence of rape.

“She did not make any complaints of rape at the hospital, police station or to any senior police officer before or after her release,” the police spokesperson said.

The police, however, said the suspected rapist had been arrested and investigation ongoing to uncover the truth.

“On the allegations of being forced to hand over her property documents, it’s on record that she was released on bail on the  30/12/2025 and she later came back to the zone on 31/12/2025 voluntarily with a sworn affidavit from a high court,” the police said.

The police zonal command spokesperson assured that the officer accused of rape “has been identified, arrested and assisting with investigations.”

The CDHR urged the IG to order an independent probe into the matter, suspend implicated officers until conclusion of investigation and recover property unlawfully taken from the suspect.
