Michael Olise scored twice as Bayern Munich, away in Italy, thrashed Atalanta 6-1 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie at the Gewiss Stadium on Tuesday.

Josip Stanisic opened the scoring for Bayern Munich 12 minutes into the encounter before Olise doubled the lead eight minutes later, with Serge Gnabry making it 3-0 in the 25th minute.

The visitors’ reign resumed seven minutes into the second half when Nicolas Jackson extended the advantage before Olise got his brace in the 64th minute to make it 5-0.

In the 67th minute, Jamal Musiala netted Bayern Munich’s sixth goal, but Mario Pasalic prevented the German side from walking away with a clean sheet after he scored a consolation for Atalanta in added time.

It also rained goals at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano Stadium in Spain as Atletico Madrid pounded struggling Tottenham 5-2, laden with defensive errors.

Defensive errors saw Atletico Madrid go 4-0 up inside the opening 22 minutes of the tie courtesy of goals from Marcos Llorente, Antoine Griezmann, Julian Alvarez and Robin Le Normand.

However, Pedro Porro pulled one back for Tottenham in the 26th minute as the scoreline stood 4-1 at halftime. Alvarez grabbed his brace 10 minutes into the second to restore the four-goal advantage.

Another error in the back line allowed Tottenham to reduce the deficit in the 76th minute through Dominic Solanke.

Meanwhile, Barcelona and Newcastle United settled for a late 1-1 draw at Saint James’ Park. Harvey Barnes put the hosts ahead in the 86th minute, but Lamine Yamal equalised from the penalty spot deep into added time.
