Tyler Robinson, the alleged killer of Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist shot dead at Utah Valley University last week Wednesday, will face seven charges, including aggravated murder.

Jeff Gray, Utah County Attorney, read the charges against Mr Robinson at a news conference on Tuesday, ahead of his trial, scheduled to commence next month.

Mr Gray said the state will seek the death penalty for Mr Robinson, adding, “Charlie Kirk’s murder also strikes a more personal and intimate chord.

“Charlie Kirk was first and foremost a husband and father to two beautiful children, a son, a brother, and a friend. I am charged with bringing justice for Charlie Kirk,” Mr Gray said.

According to Mr Gray, Mr Robinson, 22, is charged with aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, two-count obstruction of justice, two-count witness tampering—directing a roommate to stay quiet—and violent crime in the presence of a child.

Mr Robinson also confessed in a note he left for his roommate and partner that he had “opportunity to take Kirk out,” Mr Gray revealed.

The suspect was arrested after a 33-hour-long coordinated manhunt by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and other security agencies on Thursday.

Mr Kirk, 31, who was famous for debating socio-political issues across campuses in the United States, died shortly after being shot in the neck.
