Chelsea beat Borussia Dortmund to reach Champions League quarter-finals

Chelsea have progressed to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League following a 2-0 win over Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund in the second leg of their round of 16 tie at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.
The match was delayed for 10 minutes after the visitors’ team could not make it into the stadium due to the road on the route being closed, which stopped the bus from arriving on time.
Five minutes into the action, Dortmund would soon face a setback. Julian Brandt made way for Giovanni Reyna after the German international picked up an apparent injury.
In the 17th minute, Kepa Arrizabalaga was called to action from a well-taken free kick by Marco Reus, but it was brilliantly parried away to a corner kick by the Spaniard goalkeeper before Kai Havertz’s effort narrowly missed its target and struck the post.
Chelsea finally managed to put the ball past the goalkeeper through Havertz in the 38th minute but it would not count after Raheem Sterling was played offside in the build-up to the goal.
Then five minutes later, Sterling scored again for Chelsea, but it stood this time. The England international missed his first attempt from Ben Chilwell’s cross but managed to recover and roofed the ball into the net as the Blues walked away with a one-goal advantage at halftime.
Within five minutes into the second half, Chelsea were awarded a penalty after Dortmund Marius Wolf’s hand deflected Chilwell’s cross from its target, and the call stood after a VAR review.
Havertz stepped up to take the penalty and missed it, but the referee ordered a retake after Chelsea and Dortmund players had encroached the 18-yard box before the penalty was taken.
Havertz scored the retaken penalty sealing a 2-1 aggregate victory for Chelsea after Dortmund had won the first leg 1-0 in Germany.
