Mr Christopher Maikalangu, chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) has promised to prioritise education for children and youths in the area council.

He said this at the 2023 AMAC Children’s Day celebration at  the L.E.A Primary School, Durumi II, on Saturday in Abuja.

Mr Maikalangu, who was represented by Mr Jafaru Gwagwa, AMAC council secretary, added that it was also important for all stakeholders in the education sector to teach their wards the virtues of patriotism and commitment to nation-building.

“As we all know, children are the future and they hold the key to our society. Children’s day is one special event set aside to promote awareness on issues relating to this special class in our societies.

“It is therefore necessary for all stakeholders in education, parents and the citizens to collaborate by teaching our wards the virtues of patriotic loyalty, showing committment to nation-building, promoting national unity and nurturing endless love in the country.

“In addition, it is the duty of all of us to desist from exposing children to foreign and counterproductive cultures, here, religious leaders, guardians and the school have greater roles to play,” he said.

For her part, Hajiya Maryam Baba-Karshi, AMAC L.E.A Secretary, urged the children to be good citizens and ensure they respect their elders.

“I want you all to be good children as good children are blessings to their parents.

“To the teachers, kindly take these children as your biological children if you want to succeed in life,” she said.

Also speaking, Mr Matthew Danjuma, Speaker, AMAC Legislative Chamber, added that the council would ensure it provides more furnitures for pupils in various schools in the council.

“We will provide more seats for you. We did not sit on the floor during our time, so will not allow you to sit on the floor,” he said.

Also, Dr Ibrahim Aminu, Head of Education, AMAC urged the children to shun  from drugs and other social vices.

“Avoid bad friends that will lure you into smoking and other bad lifestyle. Try and become disciplined children to your parents and teachers,” he said.

The event featured a match past of various L.E.A primary schools in the area council, as L.E.A Primary School Durumi II, won the first position.
