The Jigawa State Police Command has restated its commitment to protecting children from all forms of abuse and other vices that threaten their future.

The state Commissioner of Police (CP), Haruna Yahaya, gave the assurance on Thursday, in a message to mark the 2026 Children’s Day celebration in Dutse.

Mr Yahaya said the command joined Nigerians and the global community in marking the day set aside to recognise children’s rights, welfare and future.

He stated, “On this memorable occasion, the command extends warm felicitations to all children across Jigawa State and Nigeria at large, as children remain the foundation of a peaceful, progressive and prosperous society.

“The command acknowledges the immense potential, creativity, intelligence and leadership qualities embedded in every child, therefore, it reiterates its unwavering commitment to protect them from all forms of abuse.”

He assured parents, guardians, teachers and the public that the command would continue to strengthen community-based policing, school safety initiatives and child-friendly policing.

According to him, this will be done in collaboration with stakeholders to create a safe environment where children can learn, grow and pursue their dreams.

He urged children to remain disciplined, respectful and focused on their education, and to avoid criminal acts that could derail their future.

Mr Yahaya also called on parents and guardians to raise children with strong moral values, guidance, love and support, stressing that protecting children is a collective responsibility.

The CP consequently wished all children in Jigawa and across Nigeria a joyful and peaceful Children’s Day celebration.
