China’s deadly explosion caused by gas leakage, says local authority

Local authorities on Thursday said the explosion in North China leading to the death of seven people and 27 persons injured was caused by gas leakage.
The explosion happened in a building in Yanjiao Town, Sanhe, China.
The head of the investigation team, Liu Fulai, said the building where the incident occurred hosted several businesses, including a fried chicken shop.
However, Mr Liu said that the specific store where the explosion occurred was yet to be determined.
“The leak was below the ground surface, and all efforts to confirm the exact point of leakage were underway,” he said.
The City’s Emergency Management Bureau director, Ji Hongtu, also spoke at the explosion scene, saying that the investigation remained challenging.
“It was difficult to determine if there was a single-point leakage or multiple-point leakages due to the complexity of the underground pipeline network.
“The explosion happened on Wednesday at 7:54 a.m. All the injured persons were rushed to the hospital, but their injuries were not life-threatening,” he stated.
