Christian Eriksen stable after collapsing again during Denmark’s friendly match against Ukraine

The Danish Football Association has said a former Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen is conscious after he collapsed on the pitch during an international friendly match between Denmark and Ukraine in Odense on Sunday.
According to reports, the incident occurred in the 65th minute of the encounter when the 34-year-old suddenly went down on the pitch after appearing to hold his chest, prompting several players to vigorously waved medical professionals to enter the field.
He was attended to at the scene and was able to walk from the field, with the football association later saying in a statement that Eriksen was “conscious and doing well under the circumstances.”
Denmark’s team doctor Morten Boesen also disclosed in a statement that the Wolfsburg player was fine and that he would undergo further evaluation.
“Christian is doing well and walked off the pitch by himself. As I see it, the pacemaker responded as it should. He was briefly unconscious, but regained consciousness very quickly, and we were quickly in contact with him.
“He will now undergo further examinations at the hospital to determine what caused the incident. We are in ongoing contact with him and the doctors at the hospital,” Mr Boesen stated.
Today’s incident happened five years after Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest during an European championship match against Finland in 2021, which resulted in Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) — a type of pacemaker — being fitted on the ex-Tottenham man.
Manchester United have subsequently issued a statement about the incident, stating the club was pleased at the update about the player.
“Everybody at Manchester United is encouraged by Denmark’s update on Christian Eriksen following today’s abandoned friendly against Ukraine. The club is sending strength and love to Christian and the Eriksen family as we await further news,” the club said.
