Church burglar remand over alleged phone theft

A suspected church burglar, Oluwatobi Samuel, was on Thursday remanded by a Mapo Grade A Customary Court in Ibadan over the alleged theft of an Infinix Note 30 phone valued at N108,000.
The president of the court, S.M. Akintayo, ordered Mr Samuel to be remanded in Agodi Correctional Centre due to his inability to perfect the bail condition which the court granted him.
Ms Akintayo had granted the defendant bail in the sum of N400,000 with two reliable sureties, saying one surety must be a community leader.
She adjourned the matter until June 16 for trial.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge bordering on breaking in and stealing preferred against him.
Earlier, the prosecution, Ayodele Ayeni, told the court that the defendant committed the crime on April 12, at about 2:00 a.m., at Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Oke-anu, Adamasingba, Ibadan, Oyo State.
He added that when the complainant, Oluwaseun Olatunji, reported the stealing incident, the police arrested the defendant after they concluded their investigation.
The prosecutor stated that the offences contravened sections 416 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap 38 vol. ii law of Oyo State 2000.
