Cleaner arraigned for stealing N750,000

A 24-year-old cleaner, Sarah Godwin, who allegedly stole her employer’s N750,000 on Wednesday, appeared before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Kaduna.
Ms Godwin, who resides at Barnawa in Kaduna, is facing a charge of stealing.
According to the prosecutor, Chidi Leo, the offence was committed on January 20 at Karji in Kaduna.
Mr Leo said the defendant, a cleaner in the complainant’s (Victor Frank) company, Lightspeed Ventures, stole N750,000.
“The defendant opened the complainant’s drawer in the office, stole N750,000, and disappeared. Efforts to locate her were unsuccessful; she was later arrested by the police in Zaria, Kaduna,’’ the prosecutor told the court.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.
In his ruling, the magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted the defendant N100,000 bail with one surety in like sum.
He said the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and adjourned the case until February 24 for a hearing.
