American giant broadcaster, Cable News Network (CNN), has announced the expansion of its services to include video news streaming CNN+ by 2022.

The new venture, which will run alongside CNN’s existing television networks, is expected to air 8-12 hours of live programming everyday according to CNN’s president Jeff Zucker in statement on Friday.

“The new venture, called CNN+, was formally announced on Monday morning. It will exist side by side with CNN’s existing television networks and will feature eight to twelve hours of live programming a day,” Mr Zucker said.

Mr Zucker noted that the giant stride being pulled by the organisation thrives on the groundbreaking innovations of the company in times past, citing the invention of Cable News in 1980, defining online news in 1995 and the launching of what he refers to as a ‘direct-to-consumer’ streaming subscription service in 2022.

The pioneer executive of the yet-to-launch CNN+, Chief Digital Officer Andrew Morse, said that this new step designed to meet the changing consumer demands is the most crucial launch for CNN since it’s invention in 1980.

Mr Morse noted that video streaming services such as Netflix has appealed to people in recent times because “all cable — and broadcast — networks have taken a hit due to cord-cutting in recent years”
CNN+ is currently hiring about 450 people.

The video streaming service will holds deeper conversations than news headlines, including conversations on climate change, race and identity, said the executive.
